Mountain biking in Norway is fantastic, whilst it is still relatively new, experts are saying its some of the best in Europe if not the world.

With opportunities to do Freeride, Downhill, Dirtjumping, Single Tracks and Cross-Country all in the resort of Hafjell it really does offer everything for the enthusiast or first timer!

The season for mountain biking starts in June and ends on October! We recommend visiting between mid June-August to really experience everything the resort has to offer.

  • Why is the Mountain Biking in Norway so Good?

The Mountain in Hafjell sits at a height of 1065m above see level, because of this there is no altitude at all. Cyclists love this.

The cross-country and single tracks biking in Norway is superb. Most trails are up on the Mountain Plateau. With access to hundreds of km each day the options are endless. The trails have been in existence for hundreds of years, used by cross-county skiers in the winter time, hikers & cyclists in the Summer time. The terrain is 100% natural and really offers some spectacular riding. The extra bonus of the midnight sun means days are long and the riding can never stop if thats what you want!

Whilst we usually have great weather in Norway during the summer, the heat doesn't become unmanageable. For bikers doing downhill, wearing body armour and full helmets this is a fantastic advantage. With sunny days hitting the mid 25's to low 30's in temperature, the biking is easier and much more comfortable.

Due to the way the resorts are designed, the accommodation available in resort matches the lift capacity. This means just one thing, no lift queues.

Norway in Winter and Summer is often compared to Canada, the similarity is shocking. The terrain is tree lined, with trails through the forrests. This makes for an interesting and varied day on the Mountain.

Norway is so close to the UK, with less than a 2 hour flight from most major airports including all London airports, Manchester, Edinburgh, East Midlands & Bristol and less than a 2 hour transfer into the Mountain bike areas it is great for a holiday or even a long weekend.

Summer 2007 saw many journalists & mountain bike specialists visit Hafjell. The reports were all good, with many writing superb articles and looking forward to returning this summer.

"...Norway looks like home! Not just a little bit, a LOT. If there weren’t so many blonde people and Norwegian signs everywhere, I could have sworn that we had landed in British Columbia!

Lillehammer was one of the highlights of our whole Europe trip for two reasons. 1) Hafjell bike park is the best bike park in Norway, if not Europe. Dylan and I had both been dreaming about riding A-line in Whistler, and Hafjell was home to the Norwegian version…needless to say it was the most fun I had on my bike the whole trip!

2) We went bobsledding on the Olympic bobsled track. Imagine the most fun rollercoaster you’ve ever been on, add to the danger factor because somebody is actually driving it, increase the speed, and add so many g-forces that you can’t hold your head up. That’s what bobsledding feels like! I couldn’t stop laughing for a few minutes afterwards...."

August 2007 Norco- Canadian Mountain Bike Company.

In summer 2007 the British Magazine Mountain Biking Uk, sent over a team to check the place out. Below are a few highlights and quotes from their article. We couldn't have asked for more to highlight how good our resort is.

"The Norwegian Whistler: It might have been the midnight sun of the Arctic Circle that drew intrepid riders Grant Robinson & Jim Davage to Norway, but it'll be the secret riding down South in Hafjell that brings them back...

"One of the best places in the world to roll you wheels: the powers that be have realised mountain bikings potential for the summer months and are in the process of developing the Hafjell Bike Park to become the Whistler of Europe.

"......... Everything we rode had amazing flow, there wasn't a single run with any 'dead' zones. There were wallrides, ladder drops and skinnies - all built into the trails to improve the ride - and the fun builds, each run ending with a bigger smile than the last

"...Our guides kept the best track till after lunch - the Norwegian Downhill Championship track. The National Champs were only nine days away so there were a number of riders practising. It looked like it would be a close race cos they were all pretty fast. It's close to a four minute track and isn't far off World Cup standards....

"Biking and Beyond:...The place boasts some of the best riding in Europe. Whistler it isn't... yet! But Snorre and his team are working on it! The great thing about Hafjell is that it also has far more than just the resort riding. The mountains surrounding the town are a haven for cross-country and freeriders alike, and the Copper Mine Trails, five miles from the town are famous as some of the best singletrack riding in the world.

"If you want a break from your bike there's a massive fun park where you can go summer bob sledding, drive bumper boats and see the largest troll in the world.

"Need Gear?"...The resorts rental has hooked up with Scott to be an official test centre and are fully equipped with their top-of-the-line DH bikes - about 40 in all - and protection in the form of Dianese helmets and body armour.... At the back of the shop is one of the best equipped and most organised workshops you'll ever see. No wonder the rental bikes are so hooked up - they get better treatment in this bike hospital than my own bike gets... Jim said that this was his dream... but then he doesn't get out much!"
